Mama Lyds Lumpia!


Good news! I have my moms family recipe for Lumpia (Filipino style egg rolls) Bad news, my phone crashed last weekend and I lost all my step by step pics. Not to worry, I plan on retaking step by step pics on the wrapping process eventually! Until then, here is the recipe. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Mama Lydia’s Lumpia Recipe

1 lb ground pork (or any type if ground meat)
½ lb chopped raw shrimp (optional)
½ c. chopped mushrooms of you choice
¾ c. onions (finely chopped)
4 garlic cloves (finally chopped)
1 egg
½ c. shredded carrots (more or less) (optional)
1/2 chopped chives (optional)
1 tbs. sugar
1 tsp. corn starch
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground pepper
3 tbs. soy sauce (more or less depending on amount of shrimp added to recipe)
Few squirts of Maggi or Golden Mountain Sauce

Note: You can also add 1/4 cup chopped water chestnuts or celery for some extra crunch)

Mix all the ingredients until combined well. Make sure there is enough soy sauce but not too much or else it will be too salty. You shouldn’t need to add more than 3 tbs. of soy sauce.

Place about 1 tbs of of meat into the Lumpia wrapper and wrap cigar style. Once wrapped you can refrigerate or freeze. (If freezing, thaw in refrigerator before frying. Heat pan on medium heat and add oil. Once the oil is hot, fry Lumpia in about 1/2 inch of oil and cook till meat is no longer pink.
